Eagle Cake Topper

Well, it's time to make the real Eagle Scout cake for four Scouts in Troop 196 getting their Eagle Award.  I made the practice one back in November.

Homemade Rice Krispie treats.

Covered in homemade MMF, that my sister and I colored with food color gels.

He looks mighty mean

The rest of the cake will be baked and assembled later this week.  I'll post updates as I go.

UPDATE:  Level Two, Level Three, Day of Ceremony.

Kaaren, this is amazing. How did you make the feathers for the Eagle?

I took some leaf cutters (Wilton makes a product called "Leaf-Cut-Outs;" a 3-pack of leaf cutters) and used the large and small cutters to cut our brown and white fondant leaves. I used a knife to score and fray the leaves to look like feathers, then I started from the bottom and worked my way up. The small leaves were used to fill in around the eyes and beak.

Karen,

I will be doing a Cake like this for my Grandfather's 76th Birthday. I had the same idea for the feathers, by using the Leaf-Cut-Outs. I hope my Cake will turn out as great as yours.

This is beautiful! My son's working on his eagle and I'm already gathering ideas. I was thinking of this and cupcakes. How did you make the eyes?

The eyes are also fondant. Black fondant, yellow and then a black fondant dot for the pupil.
