Minions Cupcakes

Made just because I wanted to try them. LOVE them.

All homemade MMF,  hand-colored. Very time-consuming, but much appreciated by my co-workers.    I took them to work on my 18th Work-Anniversary this week.

Rose Cupcakes and Cake Pops

The church we attend was having a Woman's Day retreat this Saturday that I signed up for.  I mentioned that I happen to bake and asked if they would like a cake?  Sure, but can you make them cupcakes? Ok. And what else can you bring?  Um, brownies?  Good,  What else?  Errrr, cake pops?

And that's how I ended up making all the desserts for the day.  LOL No joke.  Thank goodness my mother-in-law was here to help with the cake pops because they are really labor intensive.

Carrot Cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting

I made pink rose cupcakes too (wish I had taken a picture), as well as brownies that I cut and individually wrapped in bags the church supplied for me.

Yellow cake cake pops with vanilla frosting and white candy melts,
decorated with sprinkles or pink candy melts.

Tangled/Rapunzel Cake

For our gal's party, she chose "Tangled" as her theme.  For those of you without kids, this would be Disney's version of the Rapunzel story.  It was also the theme to the 5k run I did at Epcot.  But I digress.

We found several great cakes on-line and Isabel chose her favorite one from one we liked off of a baker in the UK's Flickr pictures.

We started preparing for the cake a few weeks back, making gumpaste flowers and cupcake toppers.

Finally, it was time to get going.

Baby Rapunzel oversees the operation.

Gahh!

Her hair's not really complete here.  I was afraid to transport her like this, so the bottom part of her hair is not attached to the part by her knees.   When we got to the party location, I had more gumpaste and my clay extruder, so I could add more and bring the hair together.

The party was lots of fun!

Adventure Time!

My kids and I are addicted to Cartoon Network, especially "Regular Show" and "Adventure Time."  We are constantly watching these shows, as well as Mad.  We lurve Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum and the whole cast of insanity.

This past week we had to deal with the death of a loved one in the middle of a play week for Jacob. There was a lot of driving back and forth with my son.  For his play, the troupe was also having a concession stand to sell food to raise funds.  I decided to bake some cupcakes to donate for sale.  And of course I chose Adventure Time as my theme.

They're all butter cream, hence the..goopy-ness, but they're so cute!!

Harry Potter Cupcakes

I've been wanting to make something Harry Potter style with my cakes, I just did not know what I wanted to do.  I had extra fondant but not enough to do an entire sculpted cake and I didn't really want to make more fondant (i.e. lazy).  What to do, what to do.

I went on Cake Central and found these ADORABLE Harry Potter cupcakes made by CC Member Rcajd.  These are totally his/her creations I copied.

My nieces and nephew are visiting with their parents here at our home for several days.  The girls, with my daughter, helped make these fun cupcakes.

They're all gone, by the way.  Except Hermione.  Not sure why they haven't eaten that one yet.  :)

Little Big Planet Cake

For my daughter's 7th birthday, I created a Little Big Planet cake, per her request.  The pieces were made way in advance.  The actual cake was made in a mad rush!  I did not count on there being a banquet for my son's Academic Team on the same night as I was to decorate the cake.

Below are some of the items I created based off the game and the Strategy guides we own.

One of my favorites with regard to how it came out.

I also created a Sack Boy.  I love how he turned out.

I baked a round Wilton Ball Pan chocolate cake and covered it in fondant.

I then added some random green "land mass" shapes, added all the little round discs I created and added the little Sack Boy to the top.

Cute!
Next, I iced two each 10" almond butter cakes.  This was where the rush came in.  It was 10 p.m. and I was still making butter cream. That plus my icing skills stinking and you have a not-so-much smooth finish.

I piped a shell border, added some lettering and decorated some cupcakes (I had extra batter) and voila!

Eagle Cake Level 2

The top of the Eagle Cake is actually not a cake.  It's the rice krispie eagle head.  The middle tier is two 10" x 10" chocolate cakes with chocolate frosting, covered in homemade marshmallow fondant.

Isabel and I placed the white stars on the cake.

Then I decided to put the eagle on top, to see how it would look.  Nice!

Next up will be the third/bottom section of the cake; 2 ea. 11x15 yellow sheet cakes.

Cupcakes and Icing

The cake I am making for the Scouts does not leave any room for the boys' names, so I decided to bake two dozen cupcakes, put the boys' names on them and place them around the main cake.  I purchased a Wilton tip # 1M (really large tip for cupcakes) and I love it.  I piped 9 of the cupcakes with this really cute swirly pattern.

The other 15 were needed for the letters of the names.  For these cupcakes, I decided to use the technique I used when making Isabel's Hello Kitty cupcakes last year.

Melt some frosting in the microwave for 5-10 seconds. Stir.  Dip your cupcake
upside down in the icing.

Allow for the extra frosting to run off a bit.

Leave them be to dry for a bit.  Ta Da!

I love the "ganache" look to them.  While they dried, I started making the fondant letters for the names.

After placing them on the cupcakes, I used a bit of water on a paint brush to brush away the cornstarch I used to prevent the fondant from sticking to the letter cutters.   These will be placed around the cake, with the other cupcakes in between.

Birthday Hello Kitty Cupcakes

Happy 6th Birthday to my wonderful angel-muffin.

I decided to make Hello Kitty cupcakes for her class. Her birthday is today, Monday March 1 and she will be in school most of the day. I opted for boxed cake mix because it is quick and easy. I also opted for premade frosting as well, so I could try a new trick I learned off the internet.

I took the icing, tinted it pink, and microwaved it for 5 seconds, took it out stirred it and microwaved it another 5 seconds. This made the premade icing very runny. We took the cupcakes and bobbed them up and down in the icing (see Isabel below.)

We then set them on wax paper to set. Look how pretty they look and how smooth.

We then used royal icing to outline some Hello Kitty head shapes onto the icing. Do not use the thinner "flooding" consistency to fill or flood them in; too runny. We used the same icing we used for the outlines to fill them in.

After they dried, I used some black royal icing to make the eyes and whiskers. The nose and bows were made using Food Color pens.

Voila! Hello Kitty Cupcakes.

UPDATE: We are not allowed to bring home baked goods to school.

What a sad, sad world.

My co-workers and family will have to enjoy these labors of love my daughter and I made. We ended up buying premade ones from Wal-mart. :(
